Culture:
War:
Greeks are true warriors. Even in weddings, Spartans had friendly games of wrestling. That is what we are doing in class on Monday. Not only that, Greeks have never had more than 50 years without a war! They keep on conquering lands, so they will be stronger and stronger! The Greeks even have a god that controls war, or the war god. He is called Ares.

Food:
Food is an important aspect of the culture of the Greeks. Ancient Greeks made wine a great part of their living. They, again, had a god for wine. His name is Dionysus. The even dip bread in wine for breakfast! Dinner is one of the most important meal of the day. It consists of vegetables, fruit, fish, and possibly honey cakes. Sugar was unknown to ancient Greeks, so natural honey was used as a sweetener. Fish was one of the only protein they had. Since beef was extremely expensive.

Romance:
Romance may be known to us very well, but we can sure tell what happened by reading lots of the Greek Literatures. Many stories and Myths were based on love. Well, everyone knows, there is Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Of course, many other myths like the Odyssey and components of love in it. Also, according to greek mythology, Zeus, falls in love with multiple girls, and Aphrodite, is very flirty as well!

REligion:
Religion plays an important role in the understanding of ancient greek culture. The 98% of the Greeks are Christians Orthodox. The rest of the population are Muslims, Roman Catholics and Jewish. Greece and Russia are the only countries to have such a big proportion of Christians Orthodox. The Orthodox Church forms the third largest branch of Christianity, after the Roman Catholics and the Protestants.

This is a great book Si-ah has found over the weekend! We have found it very interesting because it consists of lots of information about the Greeks. If you want, you can borrow it from the library! I think it is a great book with great amount of information! I hope you take a look at it!
